General info
The water quality is adversely affected by phosphorus and nitrogen compounds as well as organic pollutants.
Algae, suspended organic matter and pathogenic germs are the effects, which pose a high health risk for humans and animals.
Plants and natural microorganisms cannot adequately provide the necessary natural cleaning performance. Microorganisms die.
Pollutants are created by decomposition processes in the water, are carried in as dust and animal excreta via the water surface, but also via the refill water – also from the water pipe or via the roof surface water.
Pollutants exist as anions (primarily phosphates) and cations (primarily ammonia, heavy metals, etc.).
Zeolite = cation exchanger + absorbent (molecular sieve function)
Anion adsorber = phosphate reduction
Natural zeolites are available in over 100 different types worldwide.
Only the natural clinoptilolite zeolite mineral has the necessary crystal
Other types of zeolite are ineffective for water purification.
Clinoptilolite zeolites are available in different qualities.
E.g. Australian zeolite = clinoptilolite content up to 56%!
e.g. Georgian zeolite = clinoptilolite content up to 92 %!
Pay attention to the quality when using zeolite.
Only the combination of zeolite and anion adsorber ensures the desired water quality.
Too high phosphate levels
Phosphate reduction, phosphate depletion, phosphate binding, algae, algae growth, algae bloom. Buzzwords for countless pond owners.
Many pond owners are confronted with this issue: koi ponds, garden ponds, swimming ponds, bathing ponds, ornamental ponds, fountain systems.
It has been scientifically proven that algae are able to absorb and grow even with a phosphorus content of 0.01 mg / liter of water.
0.01 mg phosphorus corresponds to approx. 0.03 mg phosphate.
Because of this, a limit value of 0.01 mg / l phosphorus is specified in the FLL regulations for municipal bathing ponds for the fill water. The same applies to private swimming and bathing ponds, but there is a tolerance limit of 0.03 mg / l phosphorus. Similarly for the phosphates.
Therefore, the quality and the phosphate content of the filling water should already be known during construction. If necessary, the fill water can already be pre-filtered.
Installing a pond substrate that is as low in phosphate as possible seems just as important.
Zeolite is a very good pond construction product and ensures very good water quality, which also benefits the biology (microorganisms, bacteria).
Zeolite is an ion exchanger that releases its stored ions (calcium, magnesium and potassium) into the water, but instead stores NH4 ions.
Zeolite is an anionic product and can therefore only absorb cations. An exception is the product Zeo Bio Active Powder. The physical Van der Waals force can be used here if necessary. However, special coordination is required to use the product.
The anion adsorber is a highly effective phosphate binder as a filter granulate based on iron oxide hydrate. A completely unproblematic filter material, which is also suitable for seawater aquaristics. In addition to phosphorus / phosphates, silicates are also bound.
